Developer / Builder, Aden Povey, from Eticon Construction approached us to design a hair and nail salon with a small office and coffee shop area. The brief was to create a space with maximum natural light, good exposure to the street corner and to use steel, glass, and face brick as much as possible. The layout was based on a courtyard format which allows natural light from all sides of the building while also separating the coffee / office space from the hair and nail salon. The courtyard also creates an intimate space for waiting clients and for patrons of the coffee shop. It was also important to maximise the exposure of the building to the street corner. Situated on a main artery leading to one of Benoni’s biggest malls, the building proudly advertises itself to passerby driving up and down this main road.
